My name is Marianna Du Bosq.
I’m thrilled you’re here—because we are a lot alike, you and me. We are both trying to raise multilingual children. Which means we both value all the benefits that speaking another language can offer. Yet I bet you also know how difficult the language learning journey can be!
If you have ever wondered:
“When is the best time to introduce a second language to my child?”
“How can I support a second language at home?”
“How much exposure should my child to learn another language?”
“Can learning another language cause language delays?”
“Is my child too old to learn another language?” …You’re in the RIGHT place! Bilingual Avenue is here to help!
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela where I spent the majority of my childhood as a monolingual speaking only Spanish. Until one day, about twenty years ago, my family and I moved to the United States of America and so began my adventure and passion for language learning!
My love for language started with my own experience and grew into a desire for teaching others which is why I spent several years in the classroom teaching English Language Learners (ELL).
Yet I am now facing the most challenging yet rewarding facet of my life, that of a bilingual parent. My husband Todd and I are blessed to have two wonderful who we are raising through a commonly used method, One Parent One Language (OPOL) for English and Spanish. And if my language journey was not crazy enough, we spent the last year living in the Black Forest in Germany so I know firsthand what learning another language is like not only as a child but now as an adult!
Passing on a language to your children can be a tough job for both parents and children!
Bilingual parents often feel like they are alone and so I started Bilingual Avenue to help parents on this journey!
